Additional Recovery Act Funding Available for Low-Income Home Weatherization Efforts

Gov. Pat Quinn announced that approximately $242 million in additional Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP) funding is available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to assist with low-income home weatherization efforts over the next two years.

"This funding makes it possible for even more people to get assistance through the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program," Gov. Quinn said. "Individuals can now get the services they need to stay safe and warm this winter at no additional charge while reducing the cost of their home energy bills."

27 Illinois Communities to Receive ARRA Funds for Alternative Transportation, Beautification Projects

Gov. Pat Quinn announced that $20 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will fund 27 alternative transportation projects across the state. The grants are part of the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) and are designed to improve the quality of life in Illinois by promoting alternative transportation, such as bike and hike trails, streetscape and beautification, and preserving transportation resources.

"Our local communities are at the core of what makes Illinois great," said Gov. Quinn. "Thanks to funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, communities across Illinois have the resources to beautify their streets, develop bike paths or improve hiking trails."

Illinois Institute of Technology Awarded $4.5 Million Recovery Act Grant

Commerce Secretary Gary Locke announced a $4.5 million Economic Development Administration grant to the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago to help refurbish an existing building at the Institute’s University Technology Park for use as a technology business incubator facility.

The project, made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, is expected to create additional jobs and private investment in the region.

"The Illinois Institute of Technology’s business incubator will build upon private investment in the Chicago region," US Sen. Dick Durbin said. "Today’s funding through the Recovery Act will enhance the University’s efforts and create good-paying jobs in the community." Read more
