California Recovery Task Force: 25 Percent of the 250,000 Education Jobs Saved or Created Nation-Wide Are in California

On October 10, 2009, Governor Schwarzenegger’s California Recovery Task Force announced that preliminary first quarter reports show Recovery Act funds managed by state government entities have cumulatively saved or created over 100,000 jobs in California through September 30, 2009. These preliminary reports will be reviewed and audited by federal and state authorities and finalized on October 31.
“We are working hand in hand with President Obama’s team to pump Recovery Act funding into our economy quickly and responsibly – and even our preliminary data shows very positive results,” said Governor Schwarzenegger. “The Recovery Act is indeed saving or creating jobs in California, especially in education.” Read more

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today joined US Vice President Joe Biden and US Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu to make a bipartisan announcement that the US Department of Energy has finalized a $535 million loan guarantee for Fremont company Solyndra Inc, which manufactures cylindrical solar photovoltaic panels. The federal funding will finance construction of the first phase of the Solyndra’s new manufacturing facility -- which the company estimates will create 3,000 construction jobs, eventually employ approximately 1,000 direct and indirect workers and provide enough clean renewable energy to power 24,000 homes a year through the first phase of annual solar production... Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today toured the Los Angeles Trade Technical College where he announced the creation of the Clean Energy Workforce Training Program (CEWTP), a $75 million investment establishing the nation’s largest state-sponsored green jobs training program. The program leverages federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funds, public-private partnerships, and state and local funding to train more than 20,000 new or re-skilled clean energy workers to build a workforce capable of performing the jobs necessary to meet the state’s goals of renewable energy development, climate change reduction, clean transportation and green building construction for a new green economy...
